Nigel Farage has strongly criticized a journalist and cautioned them about potential repercussions as he faces mounting scrutiny regarding allegations of not disclosing financial benefits from a convicted criminal.

The leader of Reform UK is facing accusations of violating parliamentary regulations by allegedly accepting various forms of support, including staffing, security, and housing, from George Cottrell, a wealthy aristocrat known as “Posh George,” in the year leading up to his tenure as an MP.

During an encounter with Sky News at Heathrow Airport upon his return from participating in Independence Day festivities in the USA, Mr. Farage became visibly agitated and confronted the reporter when questioned about the allegations.

In response to inquiries about whether he should have declared the financial assistance received from Cottrell, Mr. Farage retorted, “If your organization continues to harass my family, there will be serious consequences. That’s what you’ve been doing this morning. Leave me alone.”

As the former UKIP leader attempted to walk away, the reporter persisted, asking once more, “Was it an oversight not to declare the gifts, sir?” Mr. Farage, clearly perturbed, halted and reiterated, “Did you not hear me? You have disregarded all the rules, including Leveson. That’s it.”

Currently under investigation by Parliament’s standards commissioner for an undisclosed £5 million donation from Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne, Mr. Farage faces further scrutiny after reportedly failing to disclose financial benefits received from a convicted criminal.

Following regulations in place at the time of Mr. Farage’s election in 2024, newly elected MPs were mandated to report any gifts valued over £300 received in the preceding 12 months, with exceptions for gifts not directly related to their political duties.

Potential repercussions for breaching these rules include sanctions such as a suspension from the Commons, which could trigger a by-election in Mr. Farage’s constituency through a recall petition.

In response to the situation, the Labour Party has called on the Electoral Commission to investigate the donations, questioning whether Mr. Farage, as a prominent figure in Reform even before his return to active politics, should have disclosed the support he received and whether Cottrell was an eligible donor based on his electoral registration status.

Anna Turley MP, Chair of the Labour Party, emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “Nigel Farage must address these serious allegations to clear his name and demonstrate compliance with both parliamentary rules and the law.”

A spokesperson for Reform clarified that George Cottrell, described as an unpaid volunteer without an official role within the party, had been provided a business card to facilitate contact with Nigel Farage’s office, with no implication of formal authority or position.
