Norway’s Queen Sonja has commented on the recent lung transplant surgery undergone by Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Mette-Marit, who is the daughter-in-law of the King and Queen, had the surgery due to worsening health caused by pulmonary fibrosis since 2018. She was previously seen using an oxygen mask during engagements earlier this year.
The Royal Family of Norway confirmed that the 52-year-old princess is recovering well after the surgery. Queen Sonja shared her thoughts on the princess’s progress while speaking to local media during an engagement in Kristiansand, Norway. She expressed her joy, saying, “It’s simply fantastic. It’s fantastic that it went so well.”
Following the successful surgery, Head of Thoracic Surgery at Oslo University Hospital, Arna Tiane, stated that the lung transplant had been successful. Mette-Marit will continue to be hospitalized at Rikshospitalet for the coming weeks for monitoring, medication adjustments, potential complications treatment, and rehabilitation.
The Royal Family issued an additional statement expressing gratitude for the support received during this challenging time. The update from Queen Sonja comes amidst news of Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, receiving a four-year jail sentence for multiple offenses including rape. Prior to his conviction, reports claimed that Marius was frequently visiting his mother at the hospital, with alleged measures taken to avoid media attention.
