The eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Marius Borg Høiby, is set to appear in court soon to face 32 charges, including allegations of rape, domestic abuse, violence, death threats, and various traffic offenses. Recently, he faced six additional charges, the most serious being the transportation of marijuana across Norway. His trial is scheduled to commence on February 3 in Oslo and is anticipated to extend until mid-March.

Despite the extensive legal proceedings, Høiby will attend the court proceedings alone as his mother and stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon, have confirmed their absence to support him. In an official statement, the Royal Family expressed their decision not to comment on the trial and affirmed their commitment to continuing with official duties. Crown Princess Mette-Marit will spend a few weeks at a private residence during this period.

The Norwegian Royal Family issued a statement expressing their concern for all parties involved in the case, acknowledging the impact on their lives and emphasizing the importance of a fair judicial process. They reiterated that Marius Borg Høiby is not a part of the Royal House and highlighted his rights and responsibilities as a citizen of Norway.

When formally charged in August 2025, State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø emphasized the seriousness of the case and underscored that royal status should not influence the legal proceedings. If found guilty, the 29-year-old could potentially face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
