Three-time Olympian Michelle Plouffe has made a return to competitive basketball by coming out of retirement to represent Canada in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series event in Bangkok, Thailand. Joining her twin sister Katherine Plouffe, Cassandra Brown, and Paige Crozon, the 33-year-old athlete is set to compete in the tournament starting this Saturday.

Canada, currently ranked 10th in the women’s series standings, is aiming to secure a spot in the women’s series final in Shanghai on September 5-6. The top seven teams, along with the host country China, will advance to the final, making the upcoming event in Bangkok a crucial opportunity for Canada to earn essential qualification points.

Steve Baur, the vice-president and general manager of Canada Basketball’s women’s high performance program, expressed confidence in Michelle’s return, stating that her experience and connection with the team made her a logical choice. Michelle, who retired on July 28, 2025, to take on the role of Canada Basketball’s 3×3 performance manager, brings a wealth of success to the team, having led Canada to victory in multiple FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series competitions, claimed a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup, and secured a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics. This move not only strengthens Canada’s roster but also provides Michelle with an opportunity to reignite her competitive spirit on the court.
