“Outrage as Vinted Fails to Remove ‘No Jews’ Profile”

Published on

A shopper expressed outrage towards the online reselling platform Vinted for refusing to remove a profile containing a discriminatory statement “no Jews” in the product description. Justine, 55, was browsing through the app when she came across an anti-Semitic comment by a seller named stefsbitsforsale. The seller had written “No jews allowed” in the description of a knitted pouffe footstall and a stamp set listing also included the phrase “dont be a jew.”

Reporting the offensive comment, Justine, from Portsmouth, was shocked when Vinted informed her that the content did not breach their community standards but suggested she could block the account. Justine was taken aback by the response, expecting Vinted to take immediate action upon her report.

Vinted, in its community guidelines, emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and hate speech based on various factors. Justine criticized Vinted for not swiftly addressing the issue and stated that such behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated on any platform.

After The Mirror contacted Vinted, the offending account was eventually blocked by the online marketplace. Justine expressed concern that other users might have seen the discriminatory comment before it was removed. She also criticized the seller for hiding behind anonymity while spreading hate speech.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of promptly addressing and eliminating discriminatory content from online platforms to create a safe and inclusive environment for all users.
