The parents of a young child who was reportedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure shared an update on his recovery progress. The toddler, who is three years old, recently underwent his sixth surgery and received skin grafts. Despite still experiencing limited movement in some fingers, his condition remains stable at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
In a recent post on GoFundMe, the child’s parents expressed gratitude for the successful surgery and positive news regarding the healing process of his wounds. They praised the medical staff at Addenbrooke’s for their efforts in bringing joy to their son during his recovery, mentioning how hospital staff dressed up as superheroes to uplift his spirits.
The incident, which occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire on June 18, resulted in the child suffering injuries including a broken arm and pelvis. The zoo owners, Andy and Tracey Johnson, along with their son Edward, bravely intervened to rescue the child from the crocodile pit.
Following the incident, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was released on bail due to his challenges with learning difficulties. The online fundraising campaign set up to support the child’s recovery has garnered significant support, exceeding £62,000 in donations.
The child’s parents expressed their appreciation for the generosity shown by well-wishers and highlighted the ongoing challenges in his recovery, including nerve and tendon damage that may require an extended healing process. Despite the uncertainties ahead, they remain hopeful and thankful for the outpouring of support from the community.
Additionally, Addenbrooke’s Hospital is under investigation after reports of unauthorized access to the child’s medical records by multiple staff members. The hospital has initiated an internal inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the breach of privacy.
