The Prime Minister has criticized Iran’s assaults on neighboring nations following retaliatory actions by Tehran in response to strikes by Israel and the US on Saturday morning.
Keir Starmer, along with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, issued a joint statement urging Iran to pursue a diplomatic resolution. This statement came shortly after the PM led the Government’s emergency Cobra committee meeting as missile attacks continued in the Middle East.
In a preemptive move, US and Israeli forces conducted strikes against Iran on Saturday morning to counter the Tehran government’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons.
The statement emphasized the consistent calls from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom for Iran to halt its nuclear program, ballistic missile activities, regional destabilization efforts, violence against its people, and to engage in peaceful negotiations.
While the UK did not participate in the strikes, close coordination with international allies, including the US and Israel, was underlined. The commitment to regional stability and protection of civilians was reiterated.
