There are significant delays on the M5 near Bristol Airport this evening due to a police incident that has resulted in the closure of the motorway in both directions near Avonmouth. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes as there are currently delays of 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound.

The M5 is currently closed between J18 and 19 southbound and from J21 to J18 northbound. National Highways reported that the closure is due to an Avon & Somerset Police-led incident. Southbound traffic is being redirected, leading to a 60-minute delay in both directions.

A driver mentioned being stuck for nearly two hours without any communication. Normal traffic conditions are not expected to resume until 11:30 pm, as confirmed by National Highways.
