A family friend of a couple who tragically took the lives of themselves and their two sons in a suspected murder-suicide has speculated on the possible reasons behind the shocking incident.
The bodies of Jarrod Clune, 50, his partner Maiwenna Goasdoue, 49, and their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14, were discovered at their residence in Mosman Park, Australia. The discovery was made after concerns were raised by a caregiver who couldn’t reach the family.
Authorities suspect that Mr. Clune and Mrs. Goasdoue may have first taken the lives of their children before ending their own. A close family friend named Nedra revealed that the family felt isolated and unsupported, particularly in caring for their two sons with special needs. Nedra expressed how the lack of assistance from various sources and the constant struggle for support likely contributed to the tragic outcome.
While investigations are ongoing, law enforcement has not disclosed the exact cause of death but have ruled out violent means and the use of weapons in the incident. Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo stated that there was no prior record of family violence involving the family.
Both boys had significant health challenges, and it was noted that the family had lost government funding for one of the children’s disabilities. Disability Discrimination Commissioner Rosemary Kayess emphasized that the children’s special needs should never justify the tragic outcome, cautioning against using disability as a reason for the tragedy.
