In Minneapolis, a protester reportedly bit off a finger of a Homeland Security agent on the same day a federal officer fatally shot an American citizen. Department of Homeland Security officials stated that the officer will lose their finger due to the attack by the protester.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin of the Department of Homeland Security shared on a platform that the rioters in Minneapolis assaulted law enforcement officers, resulting in one of them biting off a finger of an HSI officer who will lose the finger.
The incident occurred following a controversial response from Donald Trump regarding the federal agent’s shooting of the American citizen. The identities of those involved in the finger-biting incident have not been confirmed. The trigger for the incident, beyond the fatal shooting, remains unclear, but civil unrest seems to be escalating in the city.
Earlier, a 37-year-old American citizen and ICU nurse named Alex Jeffrey Pretti was fatally shot by a federal agent. He was reportedly armed and possessed a valid license. Homeland Security alleged that Pretti violently resisted disarmament and was carrying a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and two magazines.
A video clip captured a woman shouting about police brutality during the incident. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Pretti was armed, although details surrounding the shooting remain ambiguous.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the shooting by federal agents and urged President Donald Trump to remove thousands of aggressive and untrained officers from Minnesota. The incident comes after the death of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, who was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on January 7, leading to widespread protests.
