Prue Leith recently shared that she turned down a request from producers of the Great British Bake Off due to concerns about a specific risk. Despite her fondness for dancing, the South African-British restaurateur revealed that both her late husband, Rayne Kruger, and her current spouse, John Playfair, adamantly refused to participate in any form of dancing.
At 86 years old, Prue announced last month that she would be stepping away from her role as a judge on the Channel 4 baking competition, citing her age and joking that she was “getting on in years.”
However, her age has not dampened her enthusiasm for dancing. Just last year, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to showcase her dance moves alongside Bake Off favorite Alison Hammond.
In her latest book, “Being Old…and Learning to Love It!,” Prue recounted a moment during filming where they were asked to dance in a challenging terrain, which she declined due to the risk of injury. However, she later joined in dancing with Alison Hammond during the New Year’s episode, embracing the moment wholeheartedly.
Nigella Lawson is set to replace Prue on the show, known for her previous programs such as Nigella Bites and Nigella Kitchen. When asked for advice for the new judge, Prue praised Nigella on BBC Radio Oxford, stating that she is highly capable and will bring a fresh perspective to the show.
Reflecting on her departure with The Spectator, Prue admitted to indecision over when to leave The Great British Bake Off, revealing that she had been contemplating her exit for years. She humorously compared her aging process to her mother’s experiences, emphasizing her decision to step down from the show after nine years of judging.
