Queen Camilla surprised everyone with a visit to Wimbledon today, where she interacted with a former tennis champion before heading to the royal box. Accompanied by her sister Annabel Elliot, Queen Camilla visited the players’ area to meet with Wimbledon staff, players, and local workers.
During her visit, Camilla had a chat with former British number one, Heather Watson, who described the Queen as “super down-to-earth” and expressed her delight at meeting her. Heather Watson shared her nervousness during the encounter, mentioning that the Queen inquired about Wimbledon and her tennis career.
In another interaction, Camilla’s sister reminisced with Heather Watson about their longstanding tradition of attending Wimbledon since their youth. Hearing this, Watson recalled meeting the previous Queen over a decade ago in a similar setting with Laura Robson.
Furthermore, Queen Camilla engaged with ball boy Zebedee from Saint Cecilia’s Church of England School and ball girl Aniya from The Tiffin’s Girl School in Kingston-upon-Thames, southwest London. Both youngsters cherished the experience, with Zebedee describing it as “very special” and Aniya expressing her gratitude for the unforgettable opportunity. The Queen showed interest in their roles as ball boys and girls and the courts they had worked on.
In a separate royal presence at Wimbledon, newlyweds Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling were spotted at SW19, joined by Zara Tindall and her husband Mike. This royal attendance coincided with Princess Kate’s recent appearance on ‘Overheard at Wimbledon,’ a series featured on Wimbledon’s Instagram account, capturing conversations among spectators during the tournament.
The special segment with Princess Kate was filmed during her visit to Wimbledon the previous week, where she cheered on Brit Arthur Fery in his victorious match against Otto Virtanen on Court 18. Princess Kate sat alongside former British number one Tim Henman and the chair of the All England Club, Debbie Jevans, during the match.
