The Royal Air Force (RAF) has confirmed its engagement in neutralizing drones in the Middle East amidst the escalating tensions involving the UK and Iran under the Trump administration.
In a recent announcement, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) disclosed that F-35 jets have been dispatched to the Middle East to intercept drones targeting British citizens and allied nations.
According to the MoD’s online statement, RAF F-35B jets conducted operations over Jordanian airspace, successfully taking down unmanned aerial systems. This operation marked the first instance of RAF F-35s engaging in such actions. The jets were supported by RAF Typhoon aircraft and a Voyager air-to-air refueling aircraft as part of defensive measures safeguarding British interests and allies.
Furthermore, a British Armed Forces Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS) team effectively intercepted drones in Iraqi airspace, which were believed to be advancing towards Coalition forces. This defensive action was carried out to protect personnel and allies operating in the region.
Additionally, on a recent incident, an RAF Typhoon intercepted an Iranian one-way attack drone targeting Qatar. This Typhoon was part of the 12 Squadron, a collaborative UK-Qatar squadron.
