Shocking video footage captures the moment a reckless driver struck his close friend while driving recklessly as if it were a game. Mehmet Celik, 24, collided with his friend Thomas Rees with his vehicle in Swansea, causing Rees to sustain a severe brain injury. Both individuals had a long history of friendship, having gone to school and university together.
The incident occurred after Mr. Rees, 23, requested a ride from Celik following a night out. Celik, who was driving at 36mph in a 20mph zone on the wrong side of the road, failed to stop at their meeting point and attempted a dangerous maneuver that resulted in the collision with Rees.
The impact of the crash was so intense that Rees suffered multiple injuries, including bleeding in the brain, a blood clot in the lungs, a fractured breastbone, and a fractured calf bone. He had to undergo an extended hospital stay for treatment.
Celik admitted guilt for causing serious harm through dangerous driving. In court, it was revealed that he expressed deep regret for his actions. The judge criticized Celik for his reckless behavior, emphasizing the serious consequences of irresponsible driving.
As a result of the incident, Celik received an 18-month suspended sentence, a four-month nightly curfew, 300 hours of unpaid work, and a two-year driving ban. The court highlighted the importance of responsible driving and the severe repercussions of reckless behavior on the road.
