A member of the Reform Party faced criticism for suggesting she wanted to wear a “Reform tartan burka.” Sarah Pochin made this remark when her teleprompter malfunctioned during Reform’s Scottish Election launch, causing her to go off-script. Previously, Pochin had apologized for remarks deemed offensive regarding the representation of Black and Asian individuals in advertisements.
During the event in Renfrewshire, Pochin humorously mentioned her frozen teleprompter and joked about wearing a Reform tartan burka. The Labour Party condemned her comments, citing previous instances of controversy. This included a TalkTV incident where Pochin expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of white representation in TV ads, attributing it to what she called “woke liberati” influence.
Labour criticized Pochin for making light of Muslims when her teleprompter malfunctioned, highlighting her past controversial statements. Pochin had previously expressed frustration over the perceived overrepresentation of Black and Asian people in television commercials, suggesting it did not accurately reflect society. She further emphasized the need for diverse representation, particularly in regions like Runcorn, which she represents.
