A recently elected Reform UK councilor has been suspended for sharing images of a Nazi flag and making derogatory comments about a perceived ‘subhuman underclass’ in now-deleted social media posts.

Nathaniel Menday, who won the election to represent the Woodhouse ward on Sheffield City Council during last week’s local elections, has been temporarily removed from his party due to posts on X (formerly Twitter) that have since been taken down. Reform UK stated that Menday’s suspension is pending an investigation into posts that have tarnished the party’s reputation.

Reportedly, Menday shared pictures of a swastika, Hitler’s Mein Kampf, and far-right symbols like the Sonnenrad, or ‘sun wheel’.

In one post, he criticized the physical appearance of people in the United Kingdom compared to other European nations and referred to a perceived lower-class population as ‘subhuman.’

A spokesperson for Reform UK informed the Sheffield Star that Menday failed to disclose the controversial posts, leading to his suspension as the party does not endorse such viewpoints.

Councillor Martin Smith, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Sheffield, expressed deep concern over Menday’s actions, labeling them as promoting white supremacist ideologies and far-right extremism.

This incident follows a statement from Reform UK’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, who mentioned that Menday’s status within the party would be reevaluated post-election, indicating that actions would be taken accordingly.

Menday is the fourth Reform UK councilor to face suspension since the May 7 local elections. Other instances include the suspension of Plymouth City Councillor Ben Rowe for sharing inflammatory social media content and the suspension of Worcestershire County Council members Ashley Monk and Jo Monk for their refusal to accept the party’s democratic decisions.
