Reform UK is facing internal discord as disagreements arise regarding its immigration stance. Zia Yusuf, the party’s spokesperson for home affairs, and Robert Jenrick, the economic lead, clashed over proposals to expel hundreds of thousands of individuals from the UK.
This rift comes at a challenging moment for Nigel Farage, with his party under scrutiny due to controversial remarks made by their candidate in Makerfield, who is challenging Andy Burnham. The disagreement stemmed from Jenrick’s statement on Sky News that foreign residents legally residing in the UK in social housing would not automatically face deportation under a Reform Government.
Yusuf rebuked Jenrick online, asserting that anyone living in taxpayer-funded social housing would fail their economic test and be deported. Labour’s immigration minister, Mike Tapp, criticized Reform UK, suggesting they lack a coherent plan and are improvising their policies.
Meanwhile, Labour highlighted their achievements, citing a significant drop in net migration and various accomplishments in areas such as healthcare, policing, defense spending, and family support. The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows a notable decrease in net migration to the UK, reaching its lowest level since early 2021.
The ongoing dispute within Reform UK contrasts with Labour’s focus on providing stability and security for the country, with a track record of accomplishments and future plans.
