Carley Fortune, a renowned romance novelist, has revealed that her upcoming book, “Only in Summer,” is scheduled for release on May 18, 2027. This novel is set in Barry’s Bay, Ont., the same charming town featured in her previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and where she spent her childhood.

In a recent newsletter statement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since selling her family’s lakeside home. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek (known as Ellie), shares a similar aspiration of owning a property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier novels, is taken aback when a new neighbor plans to demolish a nearby house to build a mansion.

While specific plot details remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that a hesitant romance will blossom against the backdrop of the lakeside setting. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has previously edited for publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her past works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, and Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
