TV personality Richard Madeley is expressing uncertainty about his future at Good Morning Britain following ITV’s budget cuts due to declining viewership. Richard, 70, initially joined GMB as a stand-in presenter in 2017 and recently became one of the lead hosts. In a recent interview on BBC Radio 4’s The Media Show, Richard discussed the possibility of starting a YouTube channel like Piers Morgan but dismissed it as too much work. He expressed concerns about the future of traditional television, likening the current situation to the decline of the Roman Empire.
ITV’s cost-cutting measures last year affected several daytime programs, including Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, Loose Women, and This Morning, with over 200 employees facing potential redundancy. Despite speculation about launching his own YouTube channel, Richard prefers the traditional work routine and is content with his current role. In a departure from his usual content, Richard visited CECOT, a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, hosting a special program exploring the prison’s operations and stories of inmates and staff. The broadcaster described the experience as eye-opening and insightful.
Don’t miss Richard Madeley: Inside the World’s Mega Prison airing on Channel 5 tonight from 9 pm to 10:30 pm.
