The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, has prohibited the singer Chappell Roan from participating in the Todo Mundo festival in the city. The decision was announced by the Mayor online, stating that Roan will not be allowed to perform at the festival as long as he holds office.
The Mayor’s announcement came after an incident where Roan’s security personnel reportedly upset former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho’s step-daughter, Ada. Jorginho claimed that Roan’s security guard behaved aggressively towards his family during breakfast at a hotel in Brazil. Jorginho is married to Catherine Harding, who shares a daughter, Ada, with actor Jude Law.
In a social media post, Mayor Eduardo stated, “As long as I am in charge of our city, this young lady @ChappellRoan will not be part of Todo Mundo in Rio! I doubt that Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would behave in such a manner! Moreover, @FrelloJorginho, your little one is already a special guest of the organization in May!”
Premier League player Jorginho recounted that his daughter innocently smiled at Chappell in their hotel, only to face unnecessary aggression from Roan’s security personnel. The incident occurred before Roan’s performance at Lollapalooza in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Chappell Roan, aged 28, gained significant popularity in 2023 with hit songs like ‘Hot to Go’ and ‘Good Luck, Babe,’ known for her unique drag-inspired performances. Despite her prominence in the music festival circuit, she will not be present at the Todo Mundo festival.
Reacting to the situation, Chappell Roan addressed the incident on social media. In a video, she expressed her side of the story, clarifying that she had no involvement in the security guard’s actions towards the mother and child.
Roan emphasized that she harbors no ill will towards her fans or children and expressed remorse for any discomfort caused. She extended her apologies to the affected mother and child for the misunderstanding.
Jorginho shared his perspective on Instagram, recounting how his daughter’s innocent excitement turned into distress due to the aggressive behavior of Roan’s security personnel. He highlighted the emotional impact on his daughter during the incident.
