Rob Beckett Questions World Cup Engagement Amid Timing Struggles

Published on

Rob Beckett has expressed his struggle to fully engage with this summer’s World Cup despite England’s advancement in the tournament. Taking to Instagram, the comedian shared his candid feelings with followers, questioning if others were experiencing the same sentiments.

In a video message, the Celebrity Traitors star admitted, “I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but is anyone else finding it hard to get into the World Cup but doesn’t want to admit it?” He elaborated that the match timings had made it challenging for him to watch the games entirely while managing family responsibilities, especially after England’s late game against Panama at 10 pm.

Sharing his dilemma, he added, “Starting at 10 o’clock, being up with the kids since 6 am, might have fallen asleep, went to bed at half time, is it just me? I’m at a loss.” Rob’s remarks coincide with England’s progress in the World Cup in the United States under Thomas Tuchel, securing a spot in the knockout rounds by defeating Croatia and Panama, with fans traveling across America to show their support.

His post sparked a flurry of responses from fans who echoed similar sentiments about the early match kick-off times and tournament schedule affecting their ability to fully immerse themselves in the World Cup experience. Fans expressed frustrations over the match conditions, with one user likening it to social obligations, while another criticized the impact of hydration breaks on the game atmosphere.

The debate over the tournament’s location, match timings, and hydration breaks has been ongoing among fans. FIFA President Gianni Infantino hinted at a potential reevaluation of hydration breaks in future World Cups based on feedback from the current tournament.

Introduced to safeguard players in hot conditions, these breaks have faced criticism for disrupting the flow of matches, dividing games into quarters regardless of weather conditions, even in stadiums equipped with closed roofs and air conditioning.
