“Ronnie O’Sullivan Makes History with Record-Breaking 153 Snooker Break”

Published on

Ronnie O’Sullivan, a renowned figure in snooker, recently achieved a groundbreaking feat by recording the highest break ever in a professional snooker match with a remarkable 153 against Ryan Day.

Competing in the World Open in Yushan, China, O’Sullivan showcased exceptional form, defeating Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to secure a spot in the quarter-final against Day this Friday. Dubbed ‘The Rocket’, O’Sullivan made history by setting a new record in the opening frame against Day, surpassing the previous record of 148 held by Jamie Burnett.

During the match, the 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after receiving a free ball, enabling him to clear the table with precision and skill. Although O’Sullivan momentarily veered off course during the break, he ultimately managed to pot the necessary balls to reach a remarkable 153, eliciting awe from spectators worldwide.

Despite ultimately losing the frame, Day showed sportsmanship by applauding O’Sullivan’s exceptional performance. Commentators, including Neal Foulds, were left astounded by the feat, with Foulds describing it as “mind-blowing.”

This achievement by O’Sullivan marks a significant milestone in professional snooker, breaking Burnett’s longstanding record of 148. Currently leading 4-0 against world No.36 Day, O’Sullivan looks poised to advance to the semi-finals of the World Open, following a somewhat disappointing 2025/26 season.
