King Charles is facing a potential scheduling conflict on the day of his official birthday parade. The annual Trooping the Colour event, featuring a grand military parade and a Buckingham Palace flypast, is scheduled for Saturday. The King will be accompanied by his family members, including the Prince and Princess of Wales with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
On the same day, Lady Pamela Hicks, a close friend of Charles’ late mother, will be laid to rest. Lady Pamela, who was a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding to Prince Philip in 1947, passed away at the age of 97. The King expressed deep sadness over her demise, praising her warmth, wit, and insight.
Lady Pamela’s funeral is set to occur at 3pm in Oxfordshire, raising uncertainty about royal attendance due to the overlapping timing with Trooping the Colour, which concludes at 1pm. Her daughter, India, announced Lady Pamela’s passing, who notably served as a bridesmaid at Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding in 1981.
Born in April 1929, Lady Pamela was the youngest daughter of Lord Mountbatten, Prince Philip’s uncle, and Edwina Ashley. She had a longstanding connection to the Royal Family, serving as a bridesmaid for Queen Elizabeth in 1947. Lady Pamela later became a lady-in-waiting to the Queen and remained a close confidante throughout her life.
Lady Pamela’s husband, David Hicks, passed away in 1998, following the death of her father in 1979 due to an IRA bomb attack. She authored several memoirs detailing her experiences within the Royal Family and her early life as Lord Mountbatten’s daughter.
In 2022, Lady Pamela became the oldest living descendant of Queen Victoria following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. She attended the state funeral alongside her daughter India.
