“Royals Support Cancer Research at St. James’s Palace”

Published on

Kate Middleton, along with the King and Queen, attended a reception to honor the important work of Cancer Research UK. The event took place at St James’s Palace in London. Kate, Charles II, and Camilla have personal connections to cancer, which led them to support this cause.

Last year, Kate shared that she had been in remission from cancer. Although Prince Charles did not disclose his specific type of cancer, he underwent treatment and responded positively to it, thanks to an early diagnosis.

The reception, hosted by the King as the patron of Cancer Research, commemorates the charity’s 125th anniversary. The royals engaged with researchers, clinicians, volunteers, and partners, emphasizing Cancer Research UK’s efforts in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester welcomed Kate, Camilla, and Charles, who were then exposed to immersive displays showcasing Cancer Research UK’s impactful work. These displays highlighted how technological advancements are revolutionizing cancer research.

Kate and Charles both faced undisclosed types of cancer in 2024. Kate underwent chemotherapy and announced her remission in January of the following year. In a World Cancer Day message, she expressed the emotional turmoil of her journey, noting moments of fear and strength.

Following her recovery, Kate gradually resumed her royal duties, recently embarking on her first foreign royal visit since her battle with cancer. Meanwhile, the King made a significant visit to the US, where he impressed Donald Trump and delivered a well-received speech to Congress.

Cancer Research UK has played a vital role in improving cancer survival rates over the years. The charity highlighted that survival rates in the UK have doubled in the last five decades due to advancements in research and clinical trials.

During the event, the King, Queen, and Kate interacted with various Cancer Research UK representatives and supporters, including Davina McCall, a former Big Brother presenter. Davina, who battled breast cancer, shared her liberating experience of discussing her cancer journey with Kate.

In a video, Davina mentioned finding and promptly treating a small lump, expressing relief that it had not spread. She previously underwent surgery for a rare brain tumor discovered during a health check-up.

Doctors later confirmed Davina’s good health following MRI scans. The meeting between Kate and Davina underscored the importance of openly discussing and supporting those affected by cancer.
