A Russian man has been convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm after Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, contacted UK police to report witnessing a woman being attacked during a video call.
During a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, it was revealed that Barron Trump informed City of London Police about his friend being assaulted by Matvei Rumiantsev in London on January 18 the previous year. Prosecutors stated that Rumiantsev was envious of the victim’s friendship with Mr. Trump.
Prosecutor Serena Gates emphasized the urgency and concern in Barron Trump’s call to the police.
Rumiantsev, residing in Canary Wharf, east London, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. However, he was acquitted of charges of rape and intentional strangulation linked to the same incident reported by Barron and another set of alleged offenses from November 2024.
In a subsequent email response to investigators, Barron Trump described the brief but distressing incident he witnessed, where he saw a man hitting the victim while she cried out in Russian before the call was abruptly ended.
During the emergency call, Barron Trump was admonished for not providing clear details about his relationship with the victim by the operator, who urged him to answer questions accurately to assist in the situation.
Prosecutor Gates suggested that Rumiantsev’s jealousy of the woman’s connection with Barron Trump, potentially due to his high public profile, could have motivated the assaults.
