Russian space vehicles have been flagged as capable of altering the paths of critical European satellites and potentially causing collisions, according to security authorities. This concern arises in the wake of reports suggesting that two Russian entities have been eavesdropping on the communications of around a dozen vital European satellites. These satellites, identified as Luch-1 and Luch-2, have been increasingly tailing European spacecraft amidst escalating tensions between Moscow and Western nations following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Major General Michael Traut, who leads the German military’s space command, has indicated suspicions that both satellites are engaged in signals intelligence activities.
