Sally Phillips, known for her role as Shazzer in the popular movie “Bridget Jones Diary,” revealed that she drew inspiration from her own relationship struggles to create the beloved character. The 56-year-old actress, famous for her work in the comedy classic “Smack the Pony,” shared insights into her failed marriage with Andrew Bermejo in 2017. Reflecting on the split, Sally mentioned, “My marriage ended due to various reasons, one of which was my lack of readiness to address issues. I avoided discussing potential problems, steering conversations towards positive activities like attending courses.”
Avoiding assigning blame for the divorce after 14 years of marriage, Sally emphasized that both she and her ex-husband contributed to the relationship’s challenges. She expressed, “Our dynamic led to mutual discomfort, making it evident that continuing in that manner was not viable.”
Despite the past, Sally is now in a relationship with Ian Pilcher, a former British Army captain whom she met through a mutual acquaintance. Co-parenting her three children – Luke, Tom, and Olly, who has Down syndrome and autism – with Andrew remains a priority for her. Reflecting on her journey, she noted, “Initially, I feared the prospect of managing life as a single parent, but I’ve realized my capabilities. Divorce doesn’t equate to failure; it has taught me to cherish life’s opportunities.”
