Sara Cox has been named as the new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, taking over from Scott Mills. Mills, 53, was removed from his position last month amid revelations of a 2016 police inquiry into alleged serious sexual offenses involving a minor between 1997 and 2000.

Following Mills’ departure, Cox will transition from her current role on the teatime program to the Breakfast Show this summer. The announcement was made recently, with Cox expressing her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Helen Thomas, the head of Radio 2, commended Cox’s talent and rapport with listeners, anticipating a successful transition to the Breakfast Show.

Having been a fixture on the airwaves since joining the BBC in 1999, Cox has a strong background in radio, including stints on Radio 1 and various shows on Radio 2 over the years. Her experience and popularity with audiences make her a natural choice for the Breakfast Show.

In contrast, Mills’ contract was terminated due to the uncovering of a previous police investigation into alleged misconduct. Although he has remained out of the spotlight, Mills released a statement addressing the situation and expressing his desire for privacy regarding the matter.
