A Scandinavian Airlines flight encountered an emergency situation while flying over the UK. The crew of SAS flight SK537, which was en route from Copenhagen to Dublin, activated a “Squawk 7700” distress signal at 11:36 am GMT due to a medical emergency on board. The Airbus A320neo departed Copenhagen Airport on time and was approaching Dublin when the emergency was declared.

The distress call was made when the aircraft was at an altitude of 38,000 feet over the airspace between Scotland and Northern Ireland. The plane was granted priority for landing, and emergency medical services were prepared at the airport terminal to assist upon arrival.

The individual in need of medical attention was a passenger on the flight. SAS has not released any information regarding the passenger’s condition.

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) reported that 23.7 million passengers traveled with them to over 125 destinations worldwide in the 2023 fiscal year. The airline is actively working to reduce carbon emissions by utilizing sustainable aviation fuel, investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, and embracing technological advancements to promote sustainable aviation practices.

In a separate incident earlier this month, a TAP Air Portugal flight bound for Porto had to return to London Gatwick Airport shortly after take-off due to a reported fire in the galley. The aircraft made a safe landing back at Gatwick after transmitting a distress signal at 4,300 feet during ascent. The flight eventually departed again and arrived in Porto several hours after the initial schedule.
