“School Security Boosted After London Stabbing”

Security measures at schools may see enhancements in response to the recent stabbing incident involving two boys at a school in northwest London, as suggested by the schools minister. Police responded to a report of a 13-year-old boy being stabbed at Kingsbury High School in Brent, northwest London, followed by the discovery of another 12-year-old boy with stab wounds.

When questioned about whether children should receive training on handling terrorism incidents at school, Georgia Gould, the Minister for School Standards, acknowledged the concern this incident raises for families but highlighted the ongoing efforts to prevent knife violence through collaboration with teachers and schools to maintain safe environments.

In light of the recent events, authorities will investigate the incident thoroughly and take necessary actions if required. A 13-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the stabbings.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, Ms. Gould, an MP in a north London constituency, described it as “absolutely horrendous” and emphasized solidarity with the young victims and their families. However, she dismissed the idea of installing metal detectors in schools, stating that the focus remains on addressing knife violence through various measures such as training, investment, and support for young individuals.

Reports indicate that the perpetrator entered the school premises by climbing over a wall, and one of the victims alerted teachers by activating the fire alarm during the assault. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams noted that while the investigation involves counter-terrorism police, the incident has not been classified as a terrorist act.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood extended thoughts and prayers to the injured children and their families, commending the swift action of the police in apprehending the suspect. Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt lauded the emergency services and school staff for their prompt response, expressing solidarity with the affected individuals and the entire school community.
