Eight people were injured in a serious car crash on a major A-road in Northumberland, with seven of them rushed to the hospital. The collision, which occurred near Purdey Lodge, involved two vehicles and resulted in the closure of a section of the A1 in both directions. The road closure, between the B1340 (Denwick) and the A1167 (Berwick Upon Tweed), lasted for several hours following the incident on Saturday.
According to reports from Chronicle Live, emergency crews treated a total of eight individuals at the scene, two of whom sustained severe head and leg injuries. The North East Ambulance Service responded to the head-on collision by dispatching multiple ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crew.
The injured individuals were taken to hospitals in the area, with seven of them transported to Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington and one to RVI in Newcastle. Emergency services, including Northumbria Police, were present at the scene, and the road closure remained in effect until Sunday morning. National Highways provided support for traffic management during the incident.
