“Seven Afghan Nationals Charged in Norwich Child Sex Abuse Case”

Published on

Seven Afghan nationals and refugees are facing charges of rape and child sex abuse, announced the Norfolk Police. The allegations are linked to group-based child sexual exploitation in Norwich, with offenses reportedly occurring between August 2023 and May 2025. The individuals are accused of involvement in a grooming gang and are scheduled to appear before Norwich Magistrates’ Court soon.

The arrests were made following a coordinated police operation that targeted seven locations, including six in Norwich and one in Dumbarton, Scotland. An additional suspect, a 19-year-old man, was apprehended in Ireland. Authorities are working on the legal processes to facilitate the suspect’s return to the UK.

The charges pertain to two victims who were teenagers at the time of the incidents. Notably, none of the accused resided in asylum hotels in Norfolk, and the alleged offenses did not occur at such establishments.

Det Supt Stacey Murray emphasized the focus on the victims’ safety and well-being, highlighting the thorough and sensitive handling of the investigation. The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) is assisting in supporting victims through the potentially overwhelming justice process.

Superintendent Craig Miller acknowledged the distressing nature of the case and assured the community of efforts to safeguard children from abuse and exploitation. The launch of the Phoenix Project aims to enhance existing support structures for at-risk children by collaborating across relevant agencies.

Local officers will be present in Norwich communities to offer reassurance, and the public is encouraged to approach them with any concerns. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the police, referencing Op Highwood26.

For those seeking support regarding child sexual abuse or exploitation, resources are available through “When you are Ready” and the Norfolk Police website.
