Singer Max George recently shared how his heart condition has brought unexpected blessings, emphasizing the significance of charity work in his healing journey. The 37-year-old was hospitalized in December 2024, where doctors identified a 2:1 heart block necessitating urgent surgery due to his stagnant heart rate.
Following the pacemaker implantation, George described the experience as a surprise but has since made a successful recovery, even resuming performances with The Wanted 2.0. He is now lending his support to a new initiative by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) aimed at increasing awareness around heart conditions.
During an interview with the Press Association, George expressed his fulfillment in connecting with individuals about his health struggles. He began discussing his cardiac issues publicly while in the hospital almost two years ago, using social media to share his journey out of boredom.
He emphasized the importance of raising awareness, noting that heart problems are not exclusive to older individuals, as he discovered many of his peers experiencing similar issues. George expressed his willingness to assist others in sharing their stories and fundraising for heart condition treatments.
Reflecting on his diagnosis of a heart block, a condition affecting the heart’s electrical pulses, George recounted his alarming symptoms before receiving treatment. He highlighted the shock of the diagnosis and the challenging period he endured before the operation.
As part of the BHF campaign, George will engage with individuals facing heart conditions to exchange experiences. He eagerly anticipates his involvement in the campaign, which includes unveiling 65 red benches across the UK to honor those affected by cardiovascular disease.
George, hailing from Manchester, gained fame in the 2010s as a member of The Wanted alongside bandmates Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Nathan Sykes, and the late Tom Parker. The band achieved significant success with chart-topping singles and albums. Additionally, George appeared in the TV series Glee and participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, where he met his current girlfriend, former EastEnders star Maisie Smith.
