Six individuals were apprehended following an early morning shooting incident that left a man injured in the leg in Manchester city center. The Greater Manchester Police responded to a disturbance report on Richmond Street near the Gay Village around 5 am on Saturday, January 24.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening and non-life altering. The six men, aged between 23 and 26, were taken into custody on suspicion of affray and firearms offenses and are currently being held for further investigation.

A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Police stated that the arrests were made in connection with a firearms discharge in the city center following the morning disturbance on Richmond Street. The police recovered a firearm from the scene and emphasized that there is no broader threat to public safety.

Superintendent Stephen Wiggins of GMP’s City of Manchester division expressed the seriousness with which gun crimes are handled, citing the removal of 168 firearms from the streets since 2023 by the Serious Crime Division. The incident is believed to be targeted, and armed officers continue to be present at the scene, conducting searches in some Richmond Street apartments.

Residents are advised to steer clear of the area as investigations are ongoing to ensure public safety.
