Music artist Skepta was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving following a traffic stop where police detected a strong cannabis odor in his vehicle. The 43-year-old, whose real name is Joseph Adenuga, was apprehended after a roadside drug test showed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol, a compound found in cannabis. He was charged with driving a vehicle with a controlled drug exceeding the legal limit on May 14, 2024, on London Road in High Wycombe.
During the court proceedings at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, Adenuga confirmed his personal details as the trial began. The prosecution, led by Lucy Curran, outlined that Adenuga was stopped by Police Constable Talan O’Neill for erratic driving behavior.
PC O’Neill testified that he witnessed Adenuga overtaking another vehicle at a speed exceeding the 30mph limit on the road. The officer noted the strong smell of cannabis emanating from Adenuga’s vehicle after pulling him over.
Following a roadside drug test at 10:54 am that day, which returned a positive result for THC, Adenuga was arrested and taken to the police station. Adenuga, who hails from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial is ongoing.
