Amy Dowden, a popular figure from Strictly Come Dancing, experienced an emotional journey on the BBC show Who Do You Think You Are? as she delved into her family history. During the genealogy program, she uncovered shocking truths about her relatives, including the tragic murder of a 13-year-old family member.
One significant discovery that deeply affected Amy was learning about her great-grandmother Louisa, who passed away at a young age, leaving behind several small children. Amy, who battled breast cancer at the age of 32, was moved to tears upon discovering that Louisa died from breast cancer at the age of 39 in 1921.
Reflecting on Louisa’s struggles and the lack of available treatments during that time, Amy expressed gratitude for her own survival. She empathized with Louisa’s children, especially her grandfather Frank, who was informally adopted after her passing. Amy highlighted the hardships faced by the family and the emotional toll of losing a mother to cancer.
The episode featuring Amy Dowden on Who Do You Think You Are? will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Tuesday, June 2.
