A surfer captured the moment he was knocked off his board by a hammerhead shark in a frightening encounter. Adam Baber shared a video of his foil surfing session, where he witnessed the shark swimming beneath him and colliding with his board, causing him to fall into the water. Baber described feeling like he was in danger during the rare and alarming incident.
Posting the shocking footage on Instagram, Baber recounted the harrowing experience, expressing his initial fear of the shark attack. Fortunately, the hammerhead shark eventually swam away without causing any harm to the surfer.
While attacks by hammerhead sharks are uncommon, with only 18 reported incidents prior to 2022, these sharks have not been known to be fatal to humans, as per the International Shark Attack Files. In contrast, great white sharks have been involved in significantly more attacks and fatalities.
In a separate incident, a former Australian Navy diver, Paul de Gelder, shared his terrifying encounter with a bull shark in 2009, where he lost a hand and a leg. De Gelder described the excruciating pain of the attack and his futile attempts to defend himself, emphasizing the intense struggle and suffering he endured.
These events serve as reminders of the unpredictable dangers that can arise during ocean activities, highlighting the importance of vigilance and preparedness when encountering marine wildlife.
