A surgeon allegedly made threatening remarks to his former wife before fatally shooting her and her new husband in Columbus, Ohio. The incident unfolded on December 30 when Spencer Tepe, 37, was found dead at their residence, followed by the discovery of Monique, 39, by law enforcement. Michael McKee, Monique’s ex-husband and a practicing surgeon from Illinois, was apprehended on January 10 and charged with aggravated murder and burglary.
If convicted, McKee could face a life sentence in prison and has pleaded not guilty to all allegations. Witnesses reported that McKee had threatened Monique, claiming he could harm her at any time and expressing intentions to live near her. Monique had also allegedly disclosed instances of abuse by McKee, including physical violence and unwanted sexual advances.
Surveillance footage indicated McKee breaking into the couple’s home weeks before the tragedy while they were away. The couple, who attended a football game together earlier that day, had experienced tension related to McKee. McKee had been previously married to Monique, with their divorce citing incompatibility. Monique later married Spencer in 2021, and they shared two children.
Emergency services found the couple alive initially, but the gun used in the crime had a silencer attached. Despite the tragic loss, the family expressed dedication to seeking justice and safeguarding the couple’s children. Friends described the couple as warm, friendly, and deeply connected, expressing disbelief at the shocking turn of events.
