Alison Botha, at the age of 27, faced a horrific ordeal when she was abducted, sexually assaulted, disemboweled, and brutally attacked. Despite the extreme violence inflicted upon her, her courage and quick thinking played a crucial role in her survival.

The harrowing incident took place in December 1994 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, as Alison was returning home from a visit with her friends. A stranger, later identified as Frans du Toit, forcibly entered her vehicle as she arrived at her house.

Du Toit, a known serial rapist with a history of violent crimes, had previously targeted and assaulted multiple women. Despite being out on bail at the time, he continued his criminal activities. Along with his accomplice, Theuns Krugeras, they subjected Alison to a terrifying ordeal.

During the abduction, Du Toit displayed threatening behavior and forced Alison to comply with his demands. He took control of the car and drove them to a secluded area, where he proceeded to sexually assault her. Krugeras also participated in the assault but later hesitated, leading to a critical moment in Alison’s survival.

The situation escalated when Du Toit and Krugeras contemplated killing Alison to eliminate any witnesses. In a brutal act of violence, they attacked her, with Du Toit inflicting multiple deep cuts on her throat. Despite the severe injuries sustained, Alison demonstrated remarkable resilience and presence of mind.

After enduring unimaginable suffering, Alison managed to reach out for help by crawling towards a nearby road. Her survival instincts kicked in, and she was fortunate to encounter Tiaan Eilerd, a veterinarian, who provided crucial medical assistance at the scene.

Alison’s strength and willpower, combined with the timely intervention of Eilerd, ultimately led to her survival. Both Du Toit and Krugeras were later apprehended, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison. However, their subsequent release on parole in 2023 sparked public outrage, resulting in their re-arrest and parole being revoked.
