A teacher, aged 43, passed away following liposuction surgery due to complications. Regina Brumley Kerr underwent several cosmetic procedures simultaneously, including a tummy tuck, liposuction on her arms, and a fat transfer. Unfortunately, she experienced complications at a private clinic, leading to emergency care at a hospital in Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, where she later succumbed. This marked the third fatality related to plastic surgery in the city in a single week.
Regina was a teacher at Siquirres Bilingual Experimental School and Padre Roberto Evans Saunders Technical College. The school expressed condolences and offered support to her family during this challenging time. Additionally, the Association of Secondary School Teachers conveyed sympathies to Regina’s loved ones and colleagues at the educational institutions.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of Regina’s death, which occurred following the deaths of two other San José residents within the same week. Cinthya Carvajal Guevara and Ivannia Torres Cubillo also tragically passed away after undergoing cosmetic procedures, sparking investigations. The College of Physicians emphasized the importance of verifying surgeons’ qualifications before undergoing cosmetic surgeries to ensure proper expertise and certification.
The NHS cautioned that all surgeries carry risks, whether performed domestically or abroad, with potential complications post-operation. Overseas clinics may not offer the same level of follow-up care as in the UK, highlighting the importance of thorough research and caution when opting for cosmetic procedures.
