Teenage Tourist Killed in Costa del Sol Hit-and-Run

A teenage tourist, aged 17, tragically lost her life in a suspected hit-and-run incident on the Costa del Sol after witnessing her national team’s victory in the World Cup.

Nikoline Piwoni Høie was reportedly struck by a vehicle, believed to be a lorry, on a dual carriageway during the early hours of Monday. The incident took place on the A-7 motorway close to La Cala de Mijas, approximately 20 miles from Marbella in southern Spain, with the driver fleeing the scene.

She was reported missing after a night out with friends, last seen at the Funky Buddha nightclub in Puerto Banús. The Norwegian teen, from Arendal, had been celebrating Norway’s 2-1 win over Brazil in the World Cup with her peers.

Emergency services were alerted around 5:20 am, finding Nikoline on the road, but sadly, she could not be saved. She had been holidaying in the Costa del Sol since June 19 and was scheduled to return to Norway on the same day.

Authorities are treating her death as a hit-and-run, with no arrests made yet as they work to identify the vehicle and driver involved. Family spokesperson Finn Greve-Isdahl expressed the deep sorrow felt by the extended family over the sudden loss of their beloved member.

Nikoline’s stepmother lamented her anticipation of coming back home, calling the situation unfair and a nightmare. Arendal’s acting mayor, Inger Brokka de Ruiter, described the incident as deeply tragic and confirmed that the local crisis team is assisting affected relatives and young individuals.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has been informed, and the embassy stands ready to provide support. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
