Published on

In a dramatic turn of events on Corriedale, viewers were shocked as Theo Silverton returned to the blazing minibus driven by vicar Billy Mayhew, not to rescue him but to ensure his demise. Reattaching Billy’s seatbelt before the vehicle exploded, the malevolent scaffolder, aware of Todd Grimshaw’s revelations to the vicar about his abuse, took a sinister step to safeguard his secrets. Portraying Theo, actor James Cartwright describes him as a tormented monster.

In an upcoming episode preceding Billy’s funeral, Theo will confess his heinous act to Billy’s coffin, unknowingly being overheard by another resident of Coronation Street. James, aged 41, explains that Theo’s actions were a spur-of-the-moment decision driven by madness, believing it was in his and Todd’s best interests to leave Billy to his fate.

Theo’s abuse towards Todd has been ongoing, culminating in violent acts like smashing Todd’s face into a mirror and gaslighting him. James reveals that his character has evolved into a dark and menacing figure, even drawing comments from his own mother about his frightening portrayal on television.

Reflecting on Theo’s transformation from a contented family man to a manipulative abuser and now a killer, James characterizes Theo as a narcissist at best and a sociopath at worst. He commends Coronation Street for shedding light on abuse within same-sex relationships, emphasizing the importance of addressing such issues in society.

Acknowledging the impact of his storyline, James shares touching encounters with viewers who have expressed gratitude for raising awareness about abuse. He praises the show’s producers and cast for their dedication and sensitivity in handling such challenging narratives.

Despite the intense nature of his role, James appreciates the support from fans and his enjoyment of working on the show. He refrains from divulging details about Theo’s eventual fate but assures viewers that justice will be served, maintaining the moral integrity of soap operas.

As the gripping Theo/Todd storyline captivates audiences, James expresses his joy in being part of Corrie’s legacy and cherishing the friendships forged on set. He relishes the opportunity to portray a complex character like Theo, relishing the nuances and challenges of his role.
