A toddler is in critical condition after falling from a TUI Cruises ship in Madeira. The child, accompanied by its parents, was stabilized at the scene before being taken to the hospital. The incident occurred while the cruise liner was docked in Funchal, Madeira’s capital. Portuguese reports indicate that the child fell approximately 10 to 13 feet, and investigations are ongoing.

The ship involved, Mein Schiff 7, part of the TUI fleet, can host nearly 3,000 passengers and is currently on a seven-day journey that began on April 20 from Gran Canaria and is set to conclude on the same island next Monday.

Sources at Dr. Nelio Mendonca Hospital described the toddler’s injuries as severe, with its life hanging in the balance. An internal probe has been initiated to understand the circumstances of the incident. Red Cross officials and a rapid medical team were deployed following the alarm.

Prior to reaching Funchal Port, it was announced that Mein Schiff 7, with thousands of passengers and crew members, was making a stop in Madeira as part of its itinerary. The child was transported to Dr. Nelio Mendonca Hospital after the onboard incident.

The ports management company of Madeira did not disclose further details about the child or the incident but confirmed the involvement of the Regional Integrated Medical Emergency System in the response.
