A young father, described as “much loved,” tragically lost his life in a devastating accident just three weeks after the birth of his son. The family expressed profound grief, stating that their entire world had been shattered.
The incident occurred on September 10, 2023, in Fieldsend Lane, Burton Pidsea, Holderness, when 24-year-old Callan Towle, a front seat passenger in a vehicle, collided with a telegraph pole. The crash also resulted in injuries to two other passengers seated in the back of the car.
Following a trial at Hull Crown Court, the driver of the car, who was acquitted of causing Mr. Towle’s death and serious injuries to the rear-seat passengers due to careless driving, faced prosecution allegations. The prosecution suggested that the driver briefly lost control of his black VW Polo on a wide left ‘S’ bend while traveling with three companions around 8 pm.
According to reports from Hull Live, the driver’s vehicle made contact with the wing mirror of an oncoming car on a windy country road, causing the driver of the other car to swerve onto the grass verge to avoid a collision. Subsequently, the VW Polo spun, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a telegraph pole, toppling it due to the impact force.
Despite being rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary, Mr. Towle succumbed to his injuries, while the two back seat passengers, a male and a female, sustained severe injuries in the crash.
In a statement, Mr. Towle’s family mourned his loss, describing him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, and friend known for his kindness, care, and sense of humor. They expressed the profound void left by his absence and the pain they have endured since the tragic event. They highlighted the devastation of his untimely passing, especially considering he had become a father only three weeks earlier.
The family emphasized the irreplaceable loss they have experienced, particularly the impact on Mr. Towle’s newborn son, Billy, who will grow up without the presence of his remarkable father. They pledged to cherish his memory always and ensure that he remains a cherished part of their lives.
