The sister of a woman who tragically lost her life in a brutal attack expressed that informing the victim’s son of his mother’s death will forever haunt her. Alexandra Whyte recounted the agonizing moment when she had to break the devastating news to Rhiannon Whyte’s young son after she was viciously killed by Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese asylum seeker, in Bescot in October 2024.

During a courageous statement before the sentencing, Alexandra described the heart-wrenching experience as unimaginably difficult and painful. She criticized Majek for his lack of remorse and refusal to take responsibility for his cowardly actions, labeling him as demonic and inhuman.

Rhiannon sustained fatal injuries, including a traumatic brain stem injury and 19 head wounds, from the appalling attack with a crosshead screwdriver. Alexandra portrayed Rhiannon as a smart, kind, and hardworking individual who valiantly fought for her life against the savage assault by someone she deemed inhuman and animalistic.

Alexandra expressed her disbelief at Majek’s continued lack of remorse and accountability for his actions, questioning his motives for stalking and brutally attacking Rhiannon without provocation. The incident followed Majek’s unsettling behavior towards female staff members at the hotel where Rhiannon was employed.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell of the British Transport Police emphasized that Rhiannon was defenseless in the face of Majek’s violent assault, given his significant height advantage. CCTV footage showed Majek tracking Rhiannon to the station before launching the attack, leading to her tragic death three days later.

Following the attack, Majek was captured on CCTV wiping blood from his trousers before returning to the hotel and engaging in seemingly carefree activities with other residents, despite the emergency response to the station. Witnesses noted a shift in Majek’s demeanor from appearing somber before the attack to reverting back to normalcy after Rhiannon was injured.
