Three Irish individuals tragically lost their lives in a severe collision involving a taxi and a car in southern Spain. The victims have been identified as Mark McCullagh, Michaela Newcombe, and Amy McCullagh, who was the wife of Ian McCullagh, Mark’s brother. The incident occurred near Malaga around 2.30 am on the A7 motorway, where two vehicles collided, leading one of them to veer off the road.
Ian McCullagh, a fourth Irish national involved in the crash, survived but sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Spain. All deceased individuals hailed from Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
Ian, aged 31, had recently wed Amy in southern Spain in August 2024, as reported by the Irish Mirror. Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in for Michaela Newcombe, who served as the head receptionist at Havan Sun Mullingar beauty school. Friends and colleagues remember her as a compassionate and vibrant person who always had a kind word for everyone she encountered.
The community is in mourning, with local Sinn Féin councillor Julie McCourt expressing shock and extending condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased. McCourt emphasized the devastating impact on the entire community and assured that they are being held in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
