An eight-year-old girl, along with two other family members, was tragically discovered dead in what authorities suspect to be a case of double murder-suicide in Northern Ireland. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported that the bodies of a man, a woman, and the young girl were found in a residence on Old Cullybackey Road in Ballymena on Monday.
Superintendent William Calderwood, the District Commander for Mid & East Antrim, confirmed that the incident is being treated as a “double murder followed by a sudden death.” Police responded to the scene early in the morning and located the deceased individuals—a 41-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and the 8-year-old girl—all belonging to the same family.
Authorities clarified that there is no suspicion of external involvement in the deaths, assuring the public that there is no ongoing danger. Superintendent Calderwood expressed condolences to the grieving family members and emphasized the provision of support to them and coordination with relevant authorities.
