Police are investigating the deaths of eight family members, including six children, in Michigan following a house fire that is being considered a potential murder-suicide.

Amanda ‘Mandy’ Karolkiewicz, 39, her husband Kristopher, 47, and their six children, ranging from five to 15 years old, were found inside their Grand Haven Township home on Friday. The victims have not been officially identified, and the cause of death is yet to be determined, according to Capt. Jacob Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Reports suggest that some of the victims had gunshot wounds. The authorities are treating the incident as a murder-suicide and have ruled out the involvement of external suspects.

Family members expressed shock and grief over the tragic loss, with Mandy’s sister, Molly Cessna, asking for prayers as they try to cope with the devastating situation. Mandy’s parents also shared a heartfelt tribute, highlighting the joy the family brought into their lives.

Mandy, a substitute teacher at Grand Haven Area Public Schools, had been married for approximately 16 years. Colleagues praised her dedication to students, emphasizing her exceptional commitment.

Superintendent Kristin Perowski announced the provision of support and mental health resources for the school community in light of the tragedy. Authorities described the scene as complex and suspicious, indicating a potential deliberate setting of the fire.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke in the area early in the morning, and investigations into the fire are ongoing.
