Four individuals, including a three-year-old child, perished in a fire that resulted in a building collapse in Queens, New York City. The tragic incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when residents had to jump from the burning home to escape. Tragically, the young boy was found deceased inside the property along with three adults, suspected to be his parents.

Lillian Bonsignore, the Fire Department New York (FDNY) Commissioner, described the day as challenging and sorrowful, confirming three fatalities and numerous critically injured individuals taken to the hospital. Despite the difficulties, the FDNY managed to extinguish the fire and rescue people effectively.

While battling the inferno, two firefighters sustained minor injuries. Additionally, five members of the public are currently under medical evaluation following the incident. According to FDNY reports, three individuals had to leap from the building as the child remained trapped inside due to a collapsed staircase.

The fire broke out around 12:30 pm on the upper floors of a three-story multi-family dwelling, leading to a structural failure, as reported by the FDNY. The situation escalated to a four-alarm emergency, prompting the response of over 230 firefighters and emergency medical services personnel. Residents in the vicinity are advised to keep their windows shut as firefighting efforts continue.

Social media footage depicted a charred section of the building emitting thick smoke. Traffic in the area was significantly disrupted, and drivers were urged to steer clear of the affected zone. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
