A son tragically took his own life by jumping from a cliff in Cornwall following family rejection of his homosexuality, an inquiry revealed.
Fabio Pedranzini, described as “lovely and kind,” went missing from a holiday caravan he shared with his partner, Mark Riley, prompting a search by Devon and Cornwall Police. Fabio, a senior figure at Fujitsu managing 300 employees, disappeared from Upton Towans near Gwithian, Hayle.
After two days, Fabio’s body was found at the base of a cliff in Cornwall, where his belongings were discovered earlier. Emergency personnel located him using a police drone during a search operation.
During the investigation, Mark Riley disclosed that Fabio, who only recently came out as gay to his family after a 30-year marriage to a woman, faced resistance from his relatives. His family’s disapproval and pressure to maintain a heterosexual facade strained their relationship.
Fabio’s family, in a statement, praised his work ethic and caring nature but acknowledged his emotional turmoil before his death. They noted his withdrawal and weight loss, attributing it to his strained relationship with Mark and internal struggles.
The coroner’s report confirmed Fabio’s death as suicide, citing mental health issues and family pressures as contributing factors. The senior coroner concluded that Fabio intended to end his life, leading to the tragic outcome.
